Super Senior’s sophomore album, Groundhog Day, is a neurotic diary of the unraveling of the human spirit. Recorded during the global pandemic it is a much more contemplative tome than its angry, energetic predecessor. Hippy Jonny forgets to cut his hair and doesn’t brush his teeth for this honest portrait of desperation, loneliness, isolation, misery, rumination, rage, and longing. The cat’s out of the box: our sanguine solipsist leaves behind the trappings of what he once thought to be his identity. He lays bare a timid desire to be a pop artist and reaches deeper inside for some simple and stoic saxophone compositions. It is a child-like, fun, honest and bizarre foray into the crack-house of the mind of a true bedroom rockstar. To be played again and again and again and again and again…
